Rumour Mongering: Liverpool, Arsenal, & Man United Interested in James Rodriguez

We’d be shocked if any of them actually are, but it’s what the rumour mongers are saying today.

James Rodriguez has been linked with Liverpool before. He’s been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, too. And with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. That’s what tends to happen when you’re a good player, and sometimes even more so when you don’t end up quite as good as everyone thinks you should have been.

Such is the case with Rodriguez, who wowed the world at the World Cup and earned a move to Real Madrid that never quite panned out. And then headed to Bayern Munich for an extended loan spell that never quite panned out. And who is now trying to sort out what comes next for him.

He won’t be extending his stay at Bayern. That much seems clear. And it doesn’t appear a return to Madrid is on the cards for the now 27-year-old attacking midfielder. So we end up with the rumour mongers, including in this case The Mirror, looking to link Rodriguez to every club he’s been linked to in the past.

As such they have Liverpool interested in signing him. And Arsenal and United. And Juve and PSG. It’s even possible one or two of them actually are—even if he’s not as good as everyone thought and hoped he would be, Rodriguez is a very good player, at least for the right club and the right system.

It’s hard, though, to see that club and system being Liverpool and Klopp’s. It’s also hard to imagine the Reds making a significant financial outlay on Rodriguez given he’s in the same age bracket as their current attacking stars. Still, he’s clearly on the market, and somebody trying to link him with Liverpool was probably inevitable.
