Sadio Mane on Barca Win: Not Even the Boss Believed It

The Senegal international talks about that magical Anfield night.

It’s probably getting a bit ridiculous, bordering on obnoxious now, but it’s really difficult not to talk about That Barcelona Game. There are very few games when everything goes your way, everything fires perfectly, and the crowd and the team are in perfect harmony. There are even fewer games when all that comes together against one of the greatest teams in the world.

And now that we’re all coming down from the euphoria of that 4-0 win, Sadio ManĂ© is opening up about the atmosphere before the team stepped out onto the pitch.

“Before the game, I had never seen the boss like that,” ManĂ© told French football program, Telefoot this weekend. ”Klopp encouraged us but, honestly, not even he believed it.”

Liverpool was coming to the game with a deficit after having lost 3-0 at Camp Nou. The Reds were also without Mo Salah and Bobby Firmino. A 4-0 win against a Barcelona team that was putting forward all its best players seemed unthinkable, but the Reds made it work even under those circumstances, and Mané credits Klopp with a lot of that.

”He is exceptional, he makes you want to fight for him and give everything for him,” ManĂ© added.

Hopefully the team will bring that same energy to Madrid on June 1st.

“The final is a one-off game, it will be different from the league, you cannot hide. I think we are favourites [to win].”
