Sadio Mané Talks Champions League Prep and Winning the Golden Boot

Mané and his teammates have touched down in Marbella for their final preparations.

Sadio Mané is has one more game left in his Golden Boot-winning season, his best so far in a Liverpool shirt. The winger has proven himself invaluable to Klopp’s team, providing pace and creativity on the wing, along with an incredible partnership with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino up front.

He’s also a big game player who loves scoring important goals when they’re needed most, so his influence will be vital in Madrid when Liverpool taken on Spurs in the Champions League final.

Mané and his teammates have landed in Marbella for training, and according to the man himself, “Everybody is feeling good. We had a few days off, now we’re back and so let’s start training. We’re back in Marbella, it’s been a few times we’ve been here, so that’s good for us.”

Firmino has joined the team in full training, something that should delight the team and fans alike.

Mané was also asked about the Golden Boot award he shared with teammate Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. While he was honored by the award, he lamented the fact that the bigger prize, the Premier League title, still alluded them.

“I am very happy to win it,” he said. “I always try to score as many goals as I can for the team; for me, that’s the most important thing [helping the team]. We were a bit unlucky because we wanted to win the league – this was our target – but in football, we try and try again. It didn’t happen this time, but we have the experience [of a title race] and now we are in a final, which is another target that’s very important for us.”

But there’s still one more trophy still for the taking, and it’s the biggest one in Europe. If Mané and Liverpool can find a way to pick up their sixth Champions League trophy, then that Golden Boot might look a little sweeter in his trophy case, come June 1st.
