Sepp van den Berg Set For Medical Today Ahead of Liverpool Signing

Come join the party, lad.

The young Dutch defender appears to be inching closer to Liverpool’s first summer signing.

It’s not the biggest or splashiest signing, but in a summer thus far bereft of any real transfer news, it does at least seem to be happening. After yesterday’s widely-reported news that Liverpool had agreed to terms for 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van Den Berg, The Telegraph are now reporting that Van den Berg is set for a medical today ahead of completing his move to Merseyside.

They are also reporting that the £2 million fee is actually €2 million, or £1.79 million. Those impending Brexit exchange rates just keep getting worse, eh? Apparently Serie A side Sampdoria tried to sign the youngster in January with a £2.25 million offer that was rejected. However, with just a year left on Van den Berg’s contract, PEC Zwolle were open to a slightly reduced fee this time around.

Alongside Ki-Jana Hoever, it appears the Laptop Guys at Liverpool might be on to something, and have decided to stockpile the best young Dutch defenders. It’s clearly “one for the future” but it’s important to keep the club ticking over at all levels.

Here’s a clip of Sepp van den Berg playing for the Netherlands U19s against Portugal:
