AFCON Update: Senegal Advance to Semi-Final

Mané bagged an assist in the only goal of the game as Senegal saw off Benin.

Sadio Mané and Senegal continue their excellent run in the Africa Cup of Nations. On Wednesday, Senegal beat Benin in their second straight 1-0 victory.

Sadio Mané continues to make his case for the Golden Ball award as well. The Liverpool star didn’t score this time, but he provided the assist for Idrissa Gana Gueye to net the only goal of the game in the 69th minute.

This means that Mané’s national service continues for at least one more game. They’ll find out who their competition will be on Thursday night when Tunisia takes on Madagascar.

The semi-final clash will take place in Cairo on Sunday, July 14th.

The teams on the other side of the bracket that Senegal would face in the final so far include Nigeria and the winner between Algeria and the Ivory Coast.

Mané is currently tied in the race for the Golden Boot with three goals and now one assist. Of the three other players tied at the top, Odion Ighalo of Nigeria and Adam Ounas of Algeria still remain in the tournament. Cedric Bakambu, however, has gone home already, when Congo DR went out of the Round of 16 on penalties against Madagascar.
