Liverpool Say Dejan Lovren is Not for Sale

The club have come out in support of Lovren amid rumors of his departure this summer.
The tide of acceptance from Liverpool supporters comes and goes for Dejan Lovren. The Croatian has often found himself suddenly out of favor due to those curious moments of his on the pitch. But more often than not, under Jürgen Klopp, and especially playing beside Virgil Van Dijk, Lovren has faired well.
There have been rumors of Lovren moving on this summer with several clubs in Europe said to be interested but nothing was really happening. Now Liverpool have come out and declared that Lovren will be going nowhere this summer down to Klopp wanted to keep him around.
James Pearce reported that Liverpool had not received any e-cards from AC Milan about Lovren’s availability nor had Lovren voiced any desire to leave Liverpool before the coming season.
Lovren missed a large portion of Liverpool’s incredible season due to various injuries, but he’s been a solid performer the last couple of years. He’s looked assured next to a rock of a player like Van Dijk. But Lovren has also become more adept at moving the ball forward from the back. His long passing accuracy is solid. Aerial duels, not so much.
So, he isn’t The Answer but at 30-years-old and with a number of season’s under Klopp’s tutelage, Lovren is a really, really good fourth-choice centre-back to have in the squad. Joël Matip will probably start next season with Van Dijk because of being awesome. Then it’s Joe Gomez as the third but it looks like Joe will also be number two right back behind Trent Alexander-Arnold. Lovren’s experience in the team will be useful while the newly-signed, 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg gets up to speed.
On the other hand, maybe this is one of those sneaky transfer tricks that everyone loves. “Tell them we’re not selling him. No matter what.” “You mean as a trick? Because we are selling him, right?” “No wait, tell them we actually like him.”
