Official: Liverpool Starlet Joins Lazio on Free Transfer

After failing to make the breakthrough at Liverpool, Bobby Adekanye is heading to Serie A in search of playing time.

We’ve known for some time that 20-year-old winger Bobby Adekanye’s future was away from Anfield, with the player announcing back in May that he would not sign a new deal with the club and would instead be moving on this summer.

We’ve known for some time, too, that Lazio was the club he was likely to end up at, and today the Serie A side have made it official, announcing his arrival on a free transfer, though Liverpool will receive a nominal training compensation fee.

Having spent his earliest footballing years in Ajax’s youth system, Adekanye joined Barca’s La Masia as a highly rated 12-year-old and spent a season back in the Netherlands with PSV before eventually leaving La Masia to join Liverpool in 2015.

Since then, he spent four seasons with the Reds, impressing with the club’s youth teams but failing to make a first team appearance. The player’s hope will be that Lazio offers him a clearer path to first team football than was the case at Anfield.

His departure follows Rafa Camacho’s £7M sale to Sporting Lisbon and confirmation that Danny Ings has joined Southampton permanently as stipulated in his initial loan agreement. So far, Sepp van den Berg has been the only incoming.
