Ousmane Dembele Agent Rubbishes Transfer Rumours

The player’s people say Dembele is certain to stay at Barcelona this summer.

We’ve spent much of the summer listening to rumblings out of Spain suggesting that Barcelona are actively looking to offload Ousmane Dembele in order to fund the purchase of Antoine Griezmann, with Liverpool almost always a potential destination.

Dembele’s other likely destination, at least according to the rumours, has been Bayern Munich, who have been said to consider Dembele their Plan B for if they fail to sign Leroy Sané from Manchester City. Dembele’s people, though, insist he’s going nowhere.

“The chances that Ousmane will play at Bayern next season are almost zero,” one of the player’s representatives reportedly told Sky Germany today when asked about the recent flurry of Bayern links in particular. “He is and will remain at Barcelona.”

Meanwhile, reports in Germany have suggested Bayern will in fact not be able to sign Sané from City, with neither the player nor the English club especially interested in doing a deal this summer—precisely the eventuality Dembele was rumoured to be backup for.

For Liverpool, while Dembele’s representatives were addressing the Bayern links in particular, their insistence that he will remain with the Catalan giants should do the job of largely answering those rumours, too. Though it probably won’t stop them.

After all, with Liverpool having a very quiet summer so far, there is a need for the rumour mongers to link somebody to them. And for Barcelona, there’s still the question of how they can possibly fund the signing of Griezmann without selling Dembele.

So we don’t much expect the rumours linking Dembele to Liverpool to go away—and until Bayern do sign an attacker, whether it’s Dembele or Sané or Nicolas Pépé or Timo Werner, they’ll probably continue to be linked with him, too.
