Sadio Mané Last Liverpool Player Still Representing His Country

Mané helped lead Senegal into the AFCoN quarterfinals.

Sadio Mané has proved himself to be as useful to his national as he is to Liverpool. The Senegalese captain scored the winning goal in the 15th minute against Uganda to secure Senegal a place in the AFCoN quarterfinals.

The game against Benin will take place this Wednesday.

With Copa America ending, Naby Keita returning to Melwood early, and Egypt falling to South Africa in the Round of 16, Mané remains the only international player still away on international duty. If Senegal continue their winning ways, then he’ll be in Egypt until July 19th.

It’s not ideal, but all Liverpool fans will prefer this option over having the African players missing crucial winter games, as they had to in the past.

While Mané is the only one competing, the players who represented their countries in the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations will all miss out on the pre-season tour of America that the rest of the players will head out to shortly.

While it’s still a long shot, it’s possible now that Liverpool could begin next season with three of their players having won international trophies over the break, after Alisson and Firmino took Copa America with Brazil.
