Mohamed Salah Wins Liverpool Goal of the Month

The Egyptian international gets the honor from his well-worked team goal against Newcastle.

Another month gone, and another honor for Mohamed Salah. Ho-hum. This one is for Liverpool’s goal of the month, and he had some stiff competition, not just for the whole month of September, but in the game in which he scored it.

The goal was the third of three in the first game back from international break, in the come-from-behind win against Newcastle. Mo should probably thank Roberto Firmino for the award though, considering it was his incredible backheel, no-look flick that sent the Egyptian King through on goal. Still, Salah had a lot of work to do from there, driving past the hapless Newcastle defense before slotting with a hard, low shot to the far corner.

Sadio Mane might feel a bit cheated here, considering his first goal of the match—Liverpool’s equalizer—was also sublime.

All in all there were 6 league goals in September, and 2 more in the League Cup to choose from. Everton have 6 league goals total. Bayern Munich managed more against English competition in one game than The Ev have in two months. Unlucky.

Was this whole post really just leading to me taking the piss out of Everton? It didn’t start out that way, but here we are.

October is already shaping up to be a great month for goals, with two against Leicester (including yet another sublime Mane opener), and four against RB Salzburg. Considering we have upcoming matches against Manchester United and Tottenham in the league, a Champions League match against Genk, and a League Cup showdown against Arsenal, all slated for this month, long may the goal show continue.
