The players have been back in training since the weekend, at least the ones who didn’t have international commitments over the summer, and as of today, the 2019 pre-season is fully and officially upon us as Liverpool kick things off against Tranmere Rovers in an exciting, high-stakes match that will undoubtedly set the tone for the entire 2019-20 season to come.

Well, either that or we’ll get to see a bunch of rusty first team players and a whole lot of promising kids working on their fitness or trying to impress Jürgen Klopp and what we see today will say very little about what can be expected this season. So. It’ll probably be that.

Still, even if the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané and Virgil van Dijk and Alisson and Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum won’t be taking part, it’s football. Liverpool football. Which is always better than no Liverpool football. Plus, with some of the club’s big names still on vacation, it will be a chance for players like Rhian Brewster and Ryan Kent and Ben Woodburn to just maybe establish themselves in the first team picture this year, and that should make it worth tuning in to today for Liverpool fans.
