Divock Origi: Burnley Away “One of the Toughest Games”

Clearly Barcelona is somewhere below Burnley on the list...

When Divock Origi—destroyer of the hopes and dreams of Barcelona, Everton, and Spurs—says that Burnley is a tough match, you better pay attention.

Although Liverpool managed to win both games against the Sean Dyche-led side last year, The Clarets didn’t make either contest easy. This was especially true at Turf Moor, where the home side scored first and kept Liverpool frustrated in front of goal for over an hour. There was also that whole business about Joe Gomez, a “fantastic tackle,” and a season-ending injury.

Anyway, Origi, who started the match away to Burnley last year, does not think this trip will be a barrel of laughs either. And although the current mood around the Melwood is positive, thinks everyone is ready for a tough test today.

“We’re building on something, so we feel like we are getting closer and closer together,” the Belgian striker explained to LFC TV. “You can see on the pitch everyone is very aggressive in a good sense and we just want to win against Burnley. That would be a good first part of the season as it’s one of the toughest games, Burnley.

“I played there last year and it was tough, so we know how it’s going to be but we are ready.

“We are talented, we have a good mentality and we just have to give it everything and hopefully we will be OK.”

Since Burnley returned to the Premier League in 2016/17, they’ve managed to score at least one goal in all six matches against Liverpool. And Liverpool have managed to drop points twice, both in early season clashes: an August 2016 2-0 loss at Turf Moor, and a September 2017 1-1 draw at Anfield. Moreover, Burnley managed to open the scoring in 5 of those 6 clashes.

So, the Reds are favorites to win today, but no one—including Divock Origi—expects it to be easy. If Origi sees action today, hopefully it will be to see out a match, not for his late-game heroics. And also not because of another “fantastic” challenge on one of our players.
