Klopp: Milner Should Be Back in Action by Friday

The vice-captain sat out the Community Shield with a muscle injury.
James Milner was not present in this weekend’s Community Shield match against Manchester City due to a muscle strain, but a new season is like a new dawn is like a new signing, and the midfielder should be back in action just in time for Friday night’s season opener against Norwich City.
Milner was a critical part of last season’s campaign, so kicking the season correctly (with all players present, accounted for, and not working through any injuries) will be important for Liverpool’s title run. Luckily for us, Klopp confirmed that the midfielder’s absence was mostly precautionary.
“I would say yes,” Klopp said when asked if he thought Milner would be available for selection against Norwich City.
“It was a minor muscle injury. I would say he can probably train tomorrow, although I am not 100 per cent sure. For today it did not work out, but I think by at least Tuesday he can train.”
Milner is just one of many Liverpool players who saw injuries in the whirlwind pre-season and international games they were all involved in. The lack of proper rest for half the key players has been a sore point for the Boss who voiced his frustration repeatedly with the way that the Premier League schedule has shaken out. Hopefully, the injuries and the lack of a rest won’t create too many issues as the season kicks off.
