Sadio Mane declares himself fit to face Chelsea

Sadio Mane told the media ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Super Cup final encounter with Chelsea that he is fit to play and ready to start.

The Senegal international was on the pitch against Norwich City for 16 minutes and looked extremely sharp despite his lack of a pre-season.

His 22 goals in the Premier League last season earned him the accolade of being handed the Golden Boot, an award he shared with fellow African icons Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah.

Mane told the press: “Yes, I think I’m ready [to start]. Tiredness, I think, is here [pointing to his head] – for sure.

“I’ve been playing professional football a long time [and] I think I never even have holidays more than 20 days [for the last] seven years now. I’m used to it and, for sure, I’m ready. I’m here, so let’s do it.”

While the former Southampton winger might need more rest after a draining 2018/19 season, he’s showing no signs of letting up and will surely be looking to better his impressive numbers from over the last few seasons.

The UEFA Super Cup final might not be anywhere near as prestigious as the Premier League or Champions League but it’s a trophy nonetheless and one that Liverpool should be aiming to win.

Mane’s involvement from the start will increase Liverpool’s chances of beating Chelsea and after Manchester United tore the Blues apart at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp and his players will be confident they can win.
