Klopp On Record-Breaking Win: We Want To Write Our Own History

Liverpool wrote their names in the club history books with a 13th straight league win.

Routine as you like. Burnley huffed and puffed their best in that idiosyncratic hardnosed football of theirs but Liverpool easily dispatched their hosts 3-0, setting a club wins record to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane each punished an aggressive Clarets side with lethal counterattack goals, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Burnley’s Chris Wood combined to open the scoring in outrageous fashion in a way the youngster will have a hard time convincing anyone was intentional with a straight face.

Reds manager Jürgen Klopp, admitted that fortune that led to the first goal but commended his side’s overall performance:

”The first goal was a bit of a lucky goal but I still think we deserved that we were 1-0 up. The second goal [from Mane] was brilliant, really brilliant.”

The triumph also marked the 13^th straight league victory for the Reds, surpassing even some of the great squads in Liverpool history to set a record. Klopp chose not to dwell on his entry into the history books aw his team looks to end a 29-year league title drought.

”I am not proud [of the record number of consecutive wins] in this moment but I am happy it’s a record, it’s really nice.

”We don’t go for these records. This team wants to write their own stories and their own history. They are doing and doing and doing.

”The one thing is the number. The other is, in the thirteenth game of that series, showing the attitude that the boys showed under pressure.

”We have to show respect to our opponents and the boys do that every time.”
