Rangers Accept They Will Be Unable to Sign Liverpool Forward

Liverpool intend to find Ryan Kent a permanent home—and that means Rangers aren’t in the running.

Rangers and manager Steven Gerrard have made no secret of their desire to bring back Ryan Kent for another season on loan, but such a move appears all but impossible now that Liverpool have made it clear they want to find him a permanent home.

Earlier this week, while acknowledging his time at Rangers “helped him a lot,” Jürgen Klopp noted that Kent is at a stage where it doesn’t help him to keep getting loaned out and will only return to Rangers if they buy him. Today, Gerrard was asked about that.

“Jurgen has come out and given the answer that will come out of my mouth anyway,” was the former Liverpool captain’s response to questions about a Kent return. “It has been addressed and we move on. The end of it? Where we are right now, yes.

“We respect Liverpool’s stance and we thank them very much for allowing us to work with Ryan for a year. We have obviously got a Liverpool player at the moment in Sheyi Ojo who has started very well. We totally respect Liverpool’s position on it.”

Kent made 43 total appearances for Rangers last season, scoring six goals and nine assists. Liverpool have been seeking £12-15M for him this summer. The fee may not be exorbitant, but it still appears to be one that is beyond Rangers’ means.

While there has been little rumoured interest outside of Rangers—who only want Kent back if they can have him on loan—there have been some suggestions Leeds United could be interested in doing a permanent deal for the player.
