Rumour Mongering: Loan-to-Buy Deal Could End Kent to Rangers Impasse

Ryan Kent to Rangers continues to be a story, with the new twist being the possibility of a loan-to-buy deal.

Liverpool’s goal was to sell Ryan Kent for £7M this summer, finding the 22-year-old winger a new permanent home. A move to Leeds, though, fell through, and Rangers—his most likely other destination—don’t have the money to afford that kind of a transfer.

Even with Liverpool’s asking price reportedly dropping following the close of the transfer window for Premier League and Championship clubs in England, Kent likely remains out of reach for the Scottish side this summer. Their answer could be to save up for it.

At least that’s the suggestion of club-connected journalist Andrew Dickson, who has spent the summer insisting that Kent to Rangers and now says that, based on what he’s hearing on Rangers’ end, a loan-to-buy deal is the most likely way this story ends.

Liverpool’s asking price has come down, but it’s still too much for Rangers to afford this summer given their £3.5M purchase of defender Filip Helander. Kent, though, could be their big signing of next summer—if Liverpool are willing to do a deal that way.

If Liverpool are willing to loan Kent to Rangers for the coming season, with the Scottish side then committing to a £4-5M permanent deal for the player next summer, everybody might just be able to get what they want—or something at least not too far off it.

That seems to be the idea, in any case, and as far as these things go it does seem a reasonable enough one given Kent is unlikely to see action if he stays at Liverpool this year and that beyond Rangers there are few realistic options left at this stage.
