According to a report, a deal with Nike that could be the Premier League’s richest is close.

With Liverpool into the final year of their New Balance deal, the question of who will be the club’s next kit maker has been on the minds of some fans who want to know if the club will in the end return to Adidas, move to Nike, or perhaps even stay with New Balance.

It appears, if a brief note from Forbes today claiming the club “is on the verge of signing a new kit deal with Nike” is to be taken as gospel, that that question may soon be answered and that it’s the Oregon footwear giant with their iconic Swoosh in Liverpool’s future.

Further, Forbes says that there is at least a chance that it will be England’s richest kit deal, surpassing Manchester United’s current deal with Adidas. Whatever the final number, the Reds would begin wearing their Nike-branded gear starting in the 2020-21 season.

For some, a switch to one of the two big kit makers will be seen as a win, offering Liverpool greater exposure and maybe even an edge in player negotiations—it shouldn’t be forgotten Nike reportedly covered some of the costs of Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona move.

On the other hand, some will look at the identikits the big two have half the clubs in Europe wearing and see it as a loss to be moving away from a smaller supplier. Either way, though, a change looks to be coming soon for the Reds on the kit front.
