ESPN pundits back Liverpool to win the Premier League
Steve Nicol, Shaka Hislop and Brian McBride believe that Liverpool will win the Premier League this season and that Aymeric Laporte’s serious knee injury could play a part.
There’s nothing worse than supporters or pundits celebrating an injury to a player but there is no denying that Pep Guardiola has a conundrum on his hands after it was revealed that Laporte will miss up to six months.
Manchester City reported on their official website that the Frenchman underwent “surgery on his knee after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus.”
When asked if Liverpool would win the Premier League this season in response to a question tweeted to ESPN FC, Shaka Hislop and Steve Nicol said yes while Brian McBride said he thought they would even before the injury to Laporte.
It’s unfortunate to see Laporte, arguably the second-best defender in the world based on the last 12 months, suffer such a serious injury after his teammate Kevin De Bruyne had his 2018/19 season ruined by two knee injuries.
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table after winning their first four games of the season and will be hoping to make it five out of five on Saturday when they face Newcastle at Anfield.
The Reds were imperious at Turf Moor before the international break as they kept a dangerous Burnley side quiet and dominated proceedings from start to finish as you would expect the Champions of Europe to.
