Fulham Seek £7m Compensation for Harvey Elliott

The Reds still haven’t learned how much the 16-year old will cost them.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet — seeing two efforts bounce back off the bar — Wednesday night was still a massive one for Harvey Elliott. The 16-year old became the second youngest Liverpool player of all time when they faced off with MK Dons, and not only did he not look out of place, he was at the centre of everything a youthful Liverpool side created in attack.

Of the 19 shots the visitors took at the Stadium MK, the former Fulham man was involved in nine, creating five for others and taking four of his own, and on another day, could well have had two goals and an assist, with the aforementioned efforts off the bar to go with a gorgeous in-swinging cross finding James Milner at the far post. In the end, the youngster’s debut ended with 90 minutes played and no mention on the scoresheet, but did display every reason the Reds were so keen on adding him to their ranks this summer.

Now, Fulham are coming for their due, and according to Paul Joyce of The Times, the Londoners are looking for a fee of around £7m for their prized asset. With the two clubs failing to agree on a suitable fee in the summer, and not currently negotiating a deal, the Professional Football Compensation Committee are likely to be involved, having previously set the price for Danny Ings’ move from Burnley back in 2016.

Having left the club before signing a professional contract, costs relating to the time Elliott spent at Fulham’s academy, including education and welfare requirements, will be included in any tribunal fee, as will an appraisal of the boyhood Reds fan’s ability. The Cottagers will be looking to Ryan Kent’s fee in moving to Rangers this summer as a reference point, while Liverpool will cite Elliott’s age and lack of senior experience as a reason for a lower fee.

Whatever the Merseysiders end up paying, it appears as though it is going to be worth it, with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid target looking right at home in Liverpool red, years before even the most gifted starlets are expected to be involved in first team action. With any luck and no hiccups in Elliott’s development, the eventual fee will be seen as an absolute bargain down the line.
