Liverpool And the Pursuit The Perfect Month

Liverpool are off to a roaring start as August closes out, and we get to enjoy some pretty perfect moments
In August, Liverpool were perfect. Were they absolutely perfect? No. But, there were moments of perfection. In the league, Liverpool were perfect. Several Liverpool players were lauded as being the most perfect at their positions. Let’s take a look and bask in the glow of a pretty perfect month.
12 Points
Four games played, four games won. The Reds are currently the only squad in the league boasting a perfect record. They sit atop the Premier League table ahead of the likes of Manchester City, Leicester City, and, let me check my notes here, Crystal Palace. While extremely early into the long, arduous season, Liverpool have set themselves as title contenders. They have already put top four challenger Arsenal to the sword, and have improved every game in the league, finishing things off with an emphatic 3-0 win over bogey team Burnley.
13 Games
Liverpool’s winning streak in the league goes back to last season. The Monsters on Merseyside (trademark pending) have taken all three points domestically going back to a 0-0 draw with/win for Everton. This winning streak is the longest in club history, breaking the previous record set in 1990..the last time Liverpool won the league.
Fortress Anfield
When Jurgen Klopp took over as manager of the Reds in 2015, he vowed to return Anfield into the seething cauldron of noise it once was. Fast forward a few years, and the Kop is back to its full-throated best. The main stand has been expanded, and the ground has one of the best atmospheres in the game. Results at Anfield have followed suit. Under Klopp’s direction, Liverpool have been run their unbeaten streak at home to 42 league games.
Early Season Hardware
One trophy played for, one trophy won. Sorry, Community Shield, you’re just a glorified friendly. The UEFA Super Cup, now that’s a real trophy. Liverpool ended last season with a Champions League title, and started this season off winning the Super Cup against Europa League winners Chelsea in Istanbul. One trophy down, five to go!
Individual Accolades
Individual awards are an indication that Player X is the closest to perfection, whether at their position or across the board. Well, at the UEFA awards for the 2018/2019 season last week, Liverpool were well represented. Alisson Becker, in all his bearded glory, was named the best goalkeeper. Virgil van Dijk was not only the best defender in Europe, but was also named the best player overall. Alisson, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah were all listed in the top 10 for best player as well.
So, for me, Liverpool were perfect this August. There is certainly room for improvement, and there were certainly some individual wobbles. Alisson is still out injured, and Naby Keita hasn’t seen the field. But overall, the team were perfect. The Kop was perfect. Anfield was perfect. Let’s take some moments to enjoy the pursuit of perfection, because these moments are fleeting.
