Liverpool FC Release Official Statement Regarding Thomas Cook

The British travel company offered match accommodations in partnership with Liverpool prior to the company dissolving earlier this week.

Earlier this week, travel company and airline Thomas Cook was officially liquidated. Coming out of that news was a spate of panic from people who’d made arrangements with the company suddenly finding vacation plans derailed or, worse, stranded with no clarity as to how to make it back from a trip.

For Liverpool fans, especially those from abroad, the news was likely met with a grimace given that Thomas Cook partnered with Liverpool FC to provide accommodations and travel for fans making the trip to Anfield elsewhere. Also, if I recall correctly, Thomas Cook was the agency that was used to arrange fan travel for away games in Europe. In short, the news of Thomas Cook’s liquidation likely threw a lot of fans’ plans into disarray.

Today, Liverpool have released an official statement regarding the issue. It isn’t very detailed, though it does address a few concerns for the matches against Red Bull Salzburg and Leicester. Namely, that any tickets purchased for both matches through Thomas Cook will be honored. Travel arrangements for any of the tickets purchased through Thomas Cook, though, will not be honored. All affected people will receive an e-mail from the club as to how to claim your tickets ahead of the match.

No way to know off hand how many fans are affected by the liquidation of Thomas Cook and how many of those fans had travel and accommodation packages with their match day tickets. It is, unfortunately, a scenario where it looks like those people are out of luck as far as their match day tickets. Here’s hoping that the club and maybe other supporters can figure out a way to help those negatively impacted whether it be with rescheduling travel and matches or compensating the folks fairly for things out of their control.
