Michael Owen embarrasses himself with Manchester United comments

Michael Owen.

Michael Owen has once again embarrassed himself with comments made about  Manchester United in a comparison with Liverpool.

The Red Devils finished 31 points behind Liverpool in sixth place last season and had to watch on from afar as their biggest rivals won the Champions League for the sixth time in July.

After just four games this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are already seven points behind table-topping Liverpool and appear destined to watch Jurgen Klopp guide his side to new heights while they struggle to finish inside the top four.

Yet, Michael Owen seems to believe that Manchester United don’t necessarily have players of lesser quality when compared to Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah.

He told ESPN, via the Express: “In general, when you watch Manchester United now, it is a shadow of the previous teams of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign I guess, and it’s going to take some building.

“I don’t necessarily think the players are all that bad, I think when you look at other teams, look at Liverpool for example, are Manchester United players far inferior to Liverpool’s? I don’t necessarily think so.

“But do Liverpool’s players play with a greater understanding, a great cohesion, a lot of confidence?”

Marcus Rashford

Owen has never been renowned for talking much sense but to suggest that there isn’t much difference in quality between Liverpool and Manchester United is absurd.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored a combined 69 goals last season while Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku scored just 37 which highlights the gulf in class.
