Jurgen Klopp shares hilarious story from 2011

Jurgen Klopp has shared a hilarious story of how he ended up waking up drunk in a truck in 2011 after Borussia Dortmund beat Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title.

He recounted the story in the new Amazon Prime documentary on Borussia Dortmund, according to The Sportsman.

He said: “I was really wasted which may have been noticeable in some interviews and I don’t remember much that makes any sense.

“I’m not sure if I ever told anyone. I actually woke up on a truck in the garage. All alone. I remember that, but I have no idea about the hours before that.

“I woke up, climbed out of the truck and found myself in a big factory hall. Then I walked across the yard and saw the silhouette of a man.

“So I whistled because I can whistle quite loudly and I noticed the silhouette slowed down a little. So I waited and saw Aki Watzke (Hans-Joachim Watzke, Borussia Dortmund CEO). So Aki and I were the only people on this huge yard.”

Klopp is well known for being a light-hearted and jovial character but this story from his time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund is up there with one of the funniest football stories I’ve heard for a long time.

While his man-management and tactics have allowed Liverpool to evolve into the best side in Europe after Manchester City, Klopp’s ability to see the positive in every situation has aided the Reds’ meteoric rise to the top.

Klopp’s side is top of the Premier League table after four games and is one of just three sides in Europe’s top five leagues to have a 100% record in the league this season.

The Reds won the Champions League in July but will be eyeing the Premier League this season.
