Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Renew Timo Werner Interest

With Bayern at least temporarily out of the picture and a low release clause, the Reds are said to be looking again.
Timo Werner has been linked with Liverpool for a couple of seasons now, and while for a time those Liverpool links moved to the back burner when it looked as though the 23-year-old was set to move to Bayern Munich, that appears to have fallen through.
When it did, the RB Leipzig striker signed a new deal at his current club—but it was a new deal that included an oddly low €30M release clause, and many believe it is a deal agreed between player and club that accepts his departure next summer as inevitable.
Instead of losing him for nothing in 2020, Leipzig get €30M while Werner now earns a little more. And with Bayern supposedly no longer in the running, we come back around again to Liverpool. At least according to the rumour mongers at Football Insider.
It hardly takes any great insight to put this rumour together, of course. Liverpool were regularly linked with Werner before he seemed set for Bayern, and if Bayern is no longer in his future it would make sense he could end up at Anfield when it’s all said and done.
And on paper, at least, he seems a perfect deputy for the current front three—or perhaps even a replacement should one of them move on this season. Conversely, given Bayern for a time was his favoured destination, they could decide to come back in for him.
Whatever the case, given Liverpool’s past linkages and the low release clause—one that seems intended specifically to allow Werner to depart Leipzig next summer—probably ensure we’ll keep hearing this story or a variation on it for some time.
