Adrian was “a little shocked” when Liverpool came knocking
Adrian told Mundo Deportivo that he was “a little shocked” when Liverpool expressed their interest in him in the summer.
Adrian is quoted by Mundo Deportivo as saying: “I was a little shocked because it is true that their team of scouts had followed me for several years, but never had the opportunity.
“Then, their manager said when they won the Champions League that they were not going to make changes in goal. The market moved and the opportunity came, at an ideal time because I was free.”
While the former West Ham shot-stopper is by no means world-class, he was superb for the Reds in goal in Alisson’s injury-enforced absence this season and can hold his head up high.
His Brazilian teammate has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or this week and deserves to be in the top five at least after he won the Golden Glove in the Premier League, Champions League and the Copa America – the first goalkeeper to do so.
The Reds are blessed to have two brilliant goalkeepers and hopefully, we will see some more of Adrian in the domestic cups this season as he was amazing for the 10 games he played.
Having someone as motivated as Adrian will be fantastic for Alisson as he will not be allowed to rest on his laurels as Jurgen Klopp now knows he can call on the 32-year-old if the Brazilian is out of form.
