Anthony Taylor appointed referee for Spurs game

Anthony Taylor.

Anthony Taylor, born in Greater Manchester, has been appointed as the referee for Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool will welcome Mauricio Pochettino’s struggling Spurs side to Anfield at the weekend as they look to get back to winning ways after controversially being held to a draw by Manchester United.

After Martin Atkinson’s diabolical displays at Old Trafford, Reds fans are feeling insecure about the impact that referees have on matches in the Premier League and are now concerned about Anthony Taylor.

The 41-year-old was born in Manchester and has shown a propensity to favour sides that play against Liverpool or the two big sides from his hometown.

The most recent Liverpool game that Taylor officiated was the Reds’ 1-0 away win over Sheffield United and before that it was a 3-1 win at home against Arsenal.

The Anfield outfit might have been awarded a penalty in that game but fans are wary of Taylor’s Manchester roots and the impact that could have on any 50/50 calls.

Spurs will arrive on Merseyside in terrible form having won just three times this season, picking up a mere 12 points from their first 9 Premier League fixtures while Liverpool have 25 points.
