James Milner the toughest Patrice Evra has faced
Patrice Evra told Sky Sports that James Milner is the toughest player he has ever faced in his career and admits the Englishman frustrated him.
“James Milner, only because he frustrated me,” he told Sky Sports when asked to name the toughest winger he has come up against. “I’m an attacking defender, and he was following me everywhere. And he was challenging me in the air. And I just got frustrated sometimes.
“I was talking to him sometimes, ‘just go and attack, leave me alone’. When I was playing the derby against Manchester City, I had him. He went to Liverpool, and I had him. So yeah, for me, the one who frustrated me the most was James Milner.”
Liverpool signed Milner for free after his Manchester City contract expired and he has since turned out to be one of the club’s best-ever signings and will long be remembered by Reds fans.
His experience and mettle came in clutch against Leicester City before the international break as he buried a 95th-minute penalty to rescue the game for the home side.
Liverpool won the game 2-1 and extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points which was reduced to six after the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Milner’s leadership and experience will be vital in helping his side bounce back this weekend when Spurs travel to Merseyside.
