Martin Keown says Liverpool proved title credentials
Martin Keown says that Liverpool getting a point against Manchester United was the mark of potential league champions.
The Premier League league leaders might have had their eight-point advantage over Manchester City slashed to six on Sunday but they managed to earn a point under frustrating circumstances.
Poor refereeing, sickening chants and a general poor display from the Reds played a part but returning over the M62 with a point will have encouraged Jurgen Klopp to an extent.
Keown believes the Reds showed an important championship-winning characteristic despite their poor performance on Sunday.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Keown said: “Yes, every man and his dog may be prematurely putting a crown on your heads, but you have to embrace that.
“They did not turn up at Old Trafford looking like a team that had won their last 17 Premier League games. They didn’t swagger in there like champions in waiting.
“It took Liverpool a while to sort themselves out but Klopp used his substitutes well and they got something out of this game. That at least suggests they can become champions.”
