Liverpool set for fresh Africa Cup of Nations headache

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita.

Liverpool are set for a fresh Cup of Nations headache as FIFA’s Club World Cup will be hosted at the same time as Africa’s continental cup.

The Reds have some truly blessed African talent, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita three of the best players in the Premier League but the trio might present Jurgen Klopp with an issue.

Having been invited to take part of the revamped Club World Cup in 2021, the Reds will have to sacrifice their summer rest to take part which is an issue on its own but it will also clash with the Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament was originally played during club season but was changed to ensure players didn’t have to abandon their sides during a crucial part of the season.

Now, however, FIFA has made the controversial decision to schedule their new revamped version of the Club World Cup between 17 June and 4 July which will cause major issues.

Liverpool will either be forced to take part without their African stars or they will be forced to make them choose playing in another club tournament over the Africa Cup of Nations.

Either way, it’s safe to say that this is an awful decision from FIFA.
