Manchester City's Rodri suffers hamstring injury
Manchester City’s Rodri was substituted against Atalanta on Tuesday evening after suffering a hamstring injury which will be a major concern for Pep Guardiola.
The Premier League champions signed the Spaniard from Atletico Madrid for a whopping £62.8million in the summer and he has quickly shown that he is a top player.
While clearing the ball for an Atalanta corner during City’s third Champions League game of the season, Rodri stiffened and went down on the pitch clutching his hamstring.
He immediately gestured to the bench and was soon withdrawn from the game, with John Stones entering the fray in his place and Guardiola will be very concerned.
The former Barcelona manager can call on Fernandinho in central midfield in his place but Rodri’s injury adds to City’s ever-growing list of injury concerns with Stones only just returning from an injury of his own.
Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte are both out with long-term injuries while Oleksandr Zinchenko is out with a knee injury that is being assessed by the Man City medical staff.
Liverpool host the Blues at Anfield in 18 days and will be paying close attention to the injury status of all Manchester City players as the Premier League title race begins to take shape.
