Xherdan Shaqiri Ruled Out Further Four Weeks Due to Injury

If it’s a day that ends in day there’s probably some bad news on the Shaqiri injury front.
Xherdan Shaqiri introduced himself to Liverpool fans by scoring on a bicycle kick against Manchester United during pre-season in 2018, and in the months that followed there was plenty to suggest he would make his mark at Anfield.
Ever since the calendar ticked over to 2019, though, it’s been a steady stream of injuries while the player appears ever further from Jürgen Klopp’s favour when he is fit. And today, there’s more bad injury news to report for the Swiss forward.
Shaqiri suffered a calf injury in training ahead of an expected start against MK Dons last month, and despite talk of him nearing a return to training in recent weeks, today the club have ruled him out until November 23rd at the earliest.
That gives him four weeks—or just shy of it—before the November international break ends and the Reds take on Crystal Palace, at which point Shaqiri might be fit to play. Though at this point, might is probably carrying a lot of weight.
Meanwhile, the club are also determined to be cautious with Joël Matip’s knee injury, which could similarly see him out of action until the end of November—though in his case, there has been no suggestion of a timeline from the club.
