Jurgen Klopp fears for Liverpool midfielder

Fabinho.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that the ankle injury Fabinho sustained in the Reds’ 1-1 draw against Napoli in the Champions League is not too serious.

The Brazilian was forced off the Anfield pitch in the first-half due to a collision, but that was not until he attempted to continue playing. However, his ankle would not allow him, which saw Gini Wijnaldum subbed on in his place.

Klopp told BT Sport post-match: “Of course it’s still early and we all hope it’s not too serious but it’s pretty painful in an area where you don’t want to have pain, around the ankle and shin, so we have to see.”

At his press conference, Klopp said: “He is a really hard one and couldn’t continue. I don’t want to say what I expect, because I hope in the moment it’s not that serious.

“But we’ll know more maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after tomorrow. We’ll see.”

Fabinho is suspended for Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion, but there is a fear he could miss more due to this injury. Liverpool have a busy December, meaning this would be a huge blow.
