Rumor Mongering: Premier League Club Inquires Following Liverpool Youngster’s Star Turn

Rhian Brewster made quite the impression in Wednesday’s League Cup shootout victory over Arsenal.

You might have heard but the Liverpool academy have earned a bit of time in the spotlight the past few days. The likes of Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Caoimhín Kelleher, Harvey Elliot and Neco Williams acquitted themselves admirably against a more experienced Arsenal squad, outgunning the Londoners in a 5-5 penalty shootout victory in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup.

While he was one of the few on the pitch not to get on the scoresheet himself, Brewster’s performance in the no. 9 role came in for plaudits, and, if reports from The Mirror are to be believed, reminded admirers that the youngster could be there for the taking.

One of the Reds favorite trading partners in Crystal Palace are said to have an interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old, with the London club looking to bring the forward in on loan in the winter transfer window.

The academy product is well-regarded at Anfield, with many in the club hierarchy from the academy up through to manager Jürgen Klopp himself effusive in their praise of the talented player. Even so, Brewster has made only two appearances on the season so far, both in the League Cup, currently sitting behind big goal-scoring extraordinaire Divock Origi in the first team attacking ranks.

It could be argued that the youngster could do with some game time, particularly if Klopp believes Origi to be sufficient as forward support for his first choice trio of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Championship clubs such as Swansea City and Bristol are also said to be interested in pursuing Brewster’s signature, although if he were to go, Liverpool supporters would much rather see the prized prospect get a run out against Premier League opposition if at all possible.

The player admitted that he had broached the topic of a loan spell prior to the season—and was definitively shot down by Klopp, who has since included the youngster in virtually every match day squad so far this campaign.

Patience will then be required on the part of both Brewster and the Liverpool supporters wanting to see more pitch time for their prodigy, either at Anfield or elsewhere in the short term. Don’t you worry child; Klopp has a plan for you.
