Charlie Austin makes admission about Virgil van Dijk
West Bromwich Albion forward Charlie Austin has named his former teammate Virgil van Dijk as the best player he has ever played with.
Austin and Van Dijk were teammates at Southampton all those years ago, but even then could Austin see the talent that Van Dijk possessed. Austin believes that Van Dijk was always destined for greatness.
“Virgil Van Dijk, he oozes class, I knew that from moment I was with him at Southampton,” Austin told Sky Sports’ EFL Podcast.
“I said it when he left to go to Liverpool and everyone was going ‘Toby Alderweireld is the best’. Six months later he was in line to be Ballon d’Or he oozes class him.”

Since the Dutchman has arrived at Liverpool from Southampton back in January 2018, he has gone from strength to strength.
He was pivotal in the Reds claiming the Champions League trophy last season. He is also a key reason why the Reds are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table this season.
The fact he finished runner-up to Lionel Messi in the 2019 Ballon d’Or sums up just how good he has been in recent times.
Van Dijk was absent from Liverpool’s 2-1 semi-final victory over Monterrey at the FIFA Club World Cup last night due to illness. However, the centre-back should return for the final against Flamengo on Saturday.
