Former footballer claims Liverpool have had more luck than Man City in one department

Former Arsenal footballer Paul Merson believes that Liverpool have had more luck than Manchester City this season when it comes to the injury department.

Key players such as Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane have all been missing at various points of the season for Manchester City.

In saying that, Liverpool have been without Joel Matip since October, and Fabinho will miss the entirety of December. Then there was the injury to Alisson at the beginning of the season which saw the Brazilian ruled out for an extended period of time.

However, it was clear that Merson never took any of that into consideration when he stated Liverpool have had more luck than Manchester City when it came to the injury department this season.

In his column for Sky Sports, he said: “I would like to see Liverpool with Van Dijk injured for three months like Laporte and then take out a Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah for a while. But Liverpool have been quite fortunate as a lot of their players play a lot of football and they play the same team.”
