Takumi Minamino set to undergo Liverpool medical today
Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino is set to undergo his Liverpool medical today, according to journalist Dominic King.
The Reds triggered Minamino’s £7.25 million release clause earlier last week. If the Japan international passes his medical, he will officially become a Liverpool player on January 1.
The 24-year-old has been exceptional for Salzburg in the Champions League this season. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool faced Minamino twice in Group E, which arguably played a huge part in the German wanting to sign the forward.
Minamino has played a total of 22 games for Salzburg this season. He has scored nine goals and assisted a further 11.

Considering that Minamino is only going to cost Liverpool £7.25 million, it makes sense that the Anfield club are set to sign him. As he is only 24 years old, he has plenty of football ahead of him.
He gives the Reds depth in attack, and considering how taxing the second half of the season will be, it makes sense for Liverpool to bring in reinforcement. Minamino is eligible to feature for the Reds in the Champions League due to a new rule change.
