Charlie Adam compares Jordan Henderson to previous Liverpool captains
Former Reds midfielder Charlie Adam has stated that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is up there with the great captains of the club over the years.
Henderson’s Liverpool career did start off quite poorly, as he was critcised weekly by many Liverpool supporters, but his hard work as eventually paid off.
Henderson, who signed for Liverpool from Sunderland back in 2011, has claimed the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in the past six months as the Liverpool skipper.
Adam, who played alongside Henderson at Anfield, believes that the current Liverpool captain is now up there with the great club captains having achieved what he has achieved in the past six months.
Adam told the Blood Red podcast: “Did I envisage Jordan Henderson winning the European Cup as Liverpool captain? Probably not.
“But how things have changed, and he’s become comfortable in the role and since coming in as a young lad starting out, every season he’s got better and better.
“He’s played his best football this season that he’s probably ever played.
“He’s worked his way into the role and is a terrific role-model for young kids on and off the pitch, you never see him in the press for anything wrong.”

Adam added: “You could put him up there with the great Liverpool captains over the years.
“The great captains have been able to drag Liverpool through the mire, they’re the ones who have taken on the added responsibility.
“And he’s accepted the role very well, he’s taken it in his stride and the performances he’s been producing have been incredible.
“It’s a position he takes very, very seriously and he’s getting the rewards for that.”
Adam does raise a fair point. By being the captain of a team that wins trophies, you are going to be remembered as a great. The fact he has played well also helps.
The Reds could claim the Premier League title come the end of the season, as they currently sit 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. He will be the first captain of the club to lift that trophy.
Henderson may have received some serious criticism from certain Liverpool supporters in his time at the club, but he has certainly had the last laugh.
