Virgil van Dijk states why he does not need to study Danny Ings

Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk is confident that he can contain the threat that Danny Ings possesses when Liverpool play Southampton at Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool enter the Premier League clash against the Saints having defeated West Ham United 2-0 in the Premier League at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night thanks to Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as they both scored goals.

The victory ensured the Reds a 19-point lead at the top of the table, which means the club only need eight more victories to ensure a maiden Premier League title.

The Reds will no doubt be looking to claim another three points on Saturday, and Van Dijk is confident that he can stop former Liverpool forward Ings, as he has claimed he does not need to study the Englishman’s game.

“He has been a key man for them [Southampton] and helped turn it around,” Van Dijk said, as quoted by Goal.

“I’m very happy for him and very happy for the club. I hope they kick on, but Saturday we try to get a result. At this stage, you don’t need to study strikers any more.

“Normally you know their strengths and weaknesses. You try to prepare as good as possible but most of the time, it’s to make sure you’re 100 per cent ready.”

“The strikers we are facing at the moment we have played against many times.”

Ings has been superb for the Saints this season, as he has scored 14 goals in 24 Premier League outings.

Ings is one of those players the Anfield faithful have no issues with. The Englishman departed Anfield in the summer of 2018 due to lack of opportunity.

To see him scoring and playing consistently is great, as he is one of those players you do want to see do well. However, it would be nice if he did not score this weekend.
