Didi Hamann makes prediction for Liverpool’s clash against Atletico

Former Red Didi Hamann has stated that it will be difficult for Liverpool to overcome Atletico Madrid in the Champions League after the result of the first leg.

Liverpool lost the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Saul Niguez’s first-half strike ultimately gives the Spanish giants something to defend come the second leg at Anfield on March 11.

Liverpool were not horrific against the Spanish giants, but they did struggle to break down a very stubborn Atletico Madrid defence.

Hamann did not rule out a Liverpool comeback, but he suggested that the Reds will have a serious challenge to overcome if they are to progress beyond the last-16 of Europe’s elite competition.

Hamann told Goal: “It will be difficult for Liverpool after the defeat at Atletico.

“After winning 4-0 in the second leg last season against Barcelona (in the semi-finals), everyone thinks they can do it, but they didn’t have a single on goal in Madrid.

“It nothing new, however, that they have their problems away from home, that was already the case last season. Atletico will also tear up in Liverpool, I expect a fascinating second leg.”

Hamann is somewhat correct. It will be a difficult match, but one simply can’t write off Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

They have proven people wrong on so many occasions, which is why they are more than a chance of progressing.

However, Liverpool will have to play much better come the second leg if they are to progress to the next round.

Klopp’s side just have to show more urgency with and without the ball. Playing at Anfield should also aid the Reds massively.
