Gary Neville makes comparison between Liverpool and Manchester United
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has stated that his former club needs to take a look at how Liverpool have approached the transfer market since Jurgen Klopp has been in charge.
The Red Devils are currently 38 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League, which highlights the gulf in class between the two sides at this moment.
Manchester United have spent money in the past, but a lot of the players they have brought in have failed.
Neville, who was working for Sky Sports, believes that the club need to take a look at how Liverpool have approached the transfer market under Klopp.
“The recruitment has not been good enough,” Neville said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“You can go back to (Radamel) Falcao and (Angel) Di Maria and other players they have signed. The players they have signed in forward areas over the last six or seven years have not lit up this league.
“You saw at the end of the game, they brought on Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot and that tells you exactly where they are at.
“They have spent a fortune. It’s the second highest wage bill in Europe. You have to throw money at it wisely. I’m not quite sure who is in charge of recruitment over the last seven years.
“Who is behind the scenes spotting the players? Getting the likes of Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez in. You look at Liverpool with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who were known, Roberto Firmino less so. These players have been available and other teams have taken those players.

“When Di Maria signed I thought it was going to work but even that didn’t pay off, so sometimes it’s not always about the recruitment.”
Neville’s comments are a compliment to how well Liverpool have done in the transfer market in the last few years.
Liverpool’s rise recently has been down to solid recruitment. Players with quality, but also the correct mindset have been brought into Anfield.
Liverpool have not really spent an awful lot of money, but when they have made a big signing, it has been the right one.
