It’s only his just dues after leading Liverpool to their first Premier League title.

The season comes to a close with a final, inevitable trophy for Liverpool Football Club. This time it isn’t one of the players who gets the plaudits, but manager Jürgen Klopp. Klopp was announced as the League Manager’s Association’s Manager of the Year for the 2019-20 season.

This is only to be expected after the German lead Liverpool to their first Premier League title and first top flight trophy since MC Hammer released “U Can’t Touch This.”

In his comments, Klopp pointed out that winning Manager of the Year is practically a Liverpool manager rite of passage.

“I am absolutely delighted to get this wonderful trophy. It’s really wonderful and I had already the opportunity to have a look who won it before and there are obviously a lot of big, big Liverpool names involved,” Klopp said.

“Not only Liverpool names but big, big Liverpool names as well. Bill Shankly, I think, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny [Dalglish] - it looks like he’s all over the trophy everywhere! Brendan [Rodgers] won it, well deserved.”

And if you want some entertainment, here’s a video of Alex Ferguson announcing his win.

Ferguson had kind words for Klopp, but included the nugget, which I pray is true, that apparently Klopp called him at half-past three in the morning to brag about winning the league. I want this to be true, and I also want Klopp to have called Moyes, Giggs, Van Gaal, Mourinho, and Solskjær as well.

Klopp has made a case for himself to get the award since he came to the club, but this season it was undeniable. The Reds were out of this world. But more than that, every player looked happy to be on the team and committed to the cause, all hallmarks of good leadership.

Klopp would be the first to say that this team hasn’t done all it can do yet, and it will be a joy to see what he does next.
