Bayern Munich CEO Reportedly Hints at Thiago Alcântara Move
It seems as if Thiago is preparing for a move, but will it be to Liverpool?
The rumor mongering around a potential Thiago Alcântara move to Liverpool continues. The latest quotes by Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will only fuel further speculation.
“We always read a lot about Liverpool, but they haven’t contacted us yet,” Rummenigge told perpetual German rumor mongerers Bild.
“Yesterday we had the meeting with our employees and his whole family was there, and they wandered around the square in great nostalgia [at the Allianz Arena], I would say.
“It looked a lot like goodbye, as if he had made up his mind.”
This, and the other near-constant rumors coming out of Germany, seem to suggest that Thiago will be seeking new employment for the upcoming campaign. He’s simply won everything he can possibly win at Bayern, in some cases multiple times.
However, apparently Liverpool have not yet made any official approach for the player.
Despite Thiago’s undeniable talent, the transfer has always seemed a bit of an odd one to me. FSG have shied away from players approaching their 30’s—for good reason—even if the transfer can be completed relatively cheaply.
On the other hand, if ever there was a season to sign proven talent to slot into a notoriously hard-working midfield, this is probably it. The 2020/21 season, assuming it’s not once again interrupted by a long break, will be a busy one, with the games coming thick and fast over the course of the compressed season.
Anyway, it looks like Thiago is coming to terms with his departure. But it’s still unclear where he’s headed.
