Rumour Mongering: Sheffield United Favourites to Sign Rhian Brewster

The Liverpool striker could be set to join the Blades on loan for the 2020-21 season.

Rhian Brewster impressed in his half-season loan with Swansea, and he’s impressed in Liverpool’s two pre-season games this summer, but at 20 years of age the priority for the young striker is playing time and that might be hard to come by at Anfield.

Because of that, and because a player like Takumi Minamino appears a more natural stylistic fit to back up Roberto Firmino, a loan remains a possibility despite his impressive goal return—and according to 90min, Sheffield United are the current favourites.

Claiming exclusive insight into the situation, the online outlet say the Blades have been in contact and are frontrunners to take Brewster on loan for the coming season, the promise of playing every week for manager Chris Wilder giving them the edge.

Certainly, if Brewster is to be loaned out, and if Sheffield are promising a starting role for him, it’s hard to imagine a better place that he could go for a year than a club that finished in the top half last season to play for a highly regarded manager.

Still, given questions surrounding Liverpool’s front line depth and goals off the bench, it’s difficult to imagine that the club aren’t at least considering keeping Brewster at Anfield for the coming season unless a new attacking signing is planned.
