Rumour Mongering: Marko Grujic Attracting Significant Serie A Interest
Milan and Atalanta are amongst the clubs said to be considering a move for the Liverpool midfielder.
Having ruled out sending 24-year-old Marko Grujic out on loan for another season and with a first team future at the club seeming unlikely, Liverpool are believed to be searching for a new permanent home for the Serbian international.
For most, the assumption had been that a move to Germany was likeliest, and Hertha Berlin—where Grujic spent the past two seasons on loan—were widely believed to be favourites, only recent reports have claimed they could not afford him.
In their place, we now have a handful of reports out of Italy claiming Serie A interest, with local outlet Corriere de Bergamo say Atalanta want Grujic while TuttoMercatoWeb claim AC Milan and newly promoted Benevento interest.
In the case of Benevento in particular, with Liverpool seeking around £20M for Grujic, it’s said that any transfer deal would need to be structured as a loan to start with a purchase commitment should the side not be relegated.
With multiple clubs interested in Italy, though—not to mention rumours of interest from the likes of Frankfurt in Germany and Aston Villa in England—Liverpool will for now likely be content to hold out for a more straightforward deal.
Grujic was Liverpool’s first signing under Jürgen Klopp as the Reds were rumoured to have fought off interest from Milan, Inter, Juventus, and Chelsea to sign him for £5M, but his subsequent career for the Reds has not gone to plan.
