The young right back will be heading off to represent Wales after the Community Shield.

Having an international break scheduled immediately preceding the start of the 2020-21 season is hardly ideal for clubs looking to get their players fit and ready to play following a very short offseason and ahead of what promises to be a condensed campaign.

Yet despite the awkward placement of it as UEFA scramble to make up the Nations League matches that were displaced by coronavirus, it’s hard to begrudge at least one Liverpool player heading off to represent his country following Sunday’s Community Shield.

That’s because 19-year-old right back Neco Williams has been given his first senior call-up by Wales, and the youngster is expected to make his debut in one of their two matches, either against Finland on September 3rd or Bulgaria on the 6th of next month.

Following that second match, Williams and Liverpool’s other international stars will return for a short final week of pre-season training ahead of the start of the 2020-21 Premier League season, which the Reds kick off against Leeds United on September 12th.
