Jamie Carragher Calls for “a Bit of Freshness” at Liverpool

The former Red and current Sky pundit wants to see a signing or two to keep the squad fresh.

Over the past two seasons, Liverpool have won the Champions League and the Premier League. They’ve racked up 196 points domestically, established themselves as one of Europe’s top sides, and broken a thirty-year league title drought.

They’re a side that have proven that not only can they beat anyone in England or on the continent, but that they will most of the time. But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t still use a new signing or two this summer, just to keep things fresh.

“Three or four years of the same team, sometimes it just needs a bit of freshness added to it, mentally as much as anything,” former Red Jamie Carragher said. “It’ll just be interesting to see whether they get a signing or two across the line.”

The former Red and current Sky man was asked about Liverpool’s summer business—or lack thereof—so far by the broadcaster this week along when he was on with fellow pundit and playing days rival with Manchester United, Garry Neville.

For his part, Neville agreed with Carragher, believing that “the same squad, the same message, the same relationships” could need a little refresh after almost three seasons without significant additions made to Liverpool’s senior squad.

The one bit of business the club has done, signing left back Kostas Tsimikas, solves a major issue, but there still appears to be a need to at least sign a centre half and attacker—and that’s without wading into the Thiago Alcantara rumours.
