All smiles on a very straightforward evening.

Liverpool pretty much cruised through the Carabao Cup third round, beating Lincoln City 7-2 without really breaking a sweat. Curtis Jones was the standout performer, while Diogo Jota made a brief debut for the club.

Jürgen Klopp was broadly upbeat, having his usual perfectionist complaints but basically recognising his side played well.

“They deserved their two goals”, the Liverpool manager told BBC Sport.

“We played a really good football game tonight. It was easy on the eye. We passed the ball and finished situations off. The boys wanted to play football and showed an exceptional attitude.

“That’s how it should be [Liverpool’s second XI playing like their first]. Wear the shirt and show who you are. I’m happy with everything.

“Two goals we conceded were not nice, but it’s not a massive problem. You can have struggles in a game like this.”

Liverpool were much better at football than Lincoln. That’s about it really. In a world without crowds in these sorts of games, you basically just get that. A bit flat, but good to get to the next round regardless.
