LFC Women 4, Charleton Athletic 0: Reds Dominant In Game (Almost) No One Saw

LFCTV were too busy putting together highlight packages of the men’s U23 match to show the game, but we hear Rachel Furness scored a brace
If a game is played on no one can watch it, did it really happen? I’m being facetious, of course. There were a few media-type folks on hand at Prenton Park as Liverpool took on Charleton Athletic. There were even pictures and stuff. I had hoped that maybe, just maybe, this game would be the one FA Women’s Championship game shown on the FA Player this week, but no such luck. Each week is a game of FA Player roulette to see if Liverpool will be shown. Pouring salt in the wound was seeing that the Lewes FC Women were streaming their home game, like they do with every home game.

While LFCTV managed to stream the U23 and U18 games earlier this week (with commentary), there was no such courtesy extended to the women. In fact, the Liverpool main twitter account managed just one tweet to acknowledge the women were playing, retweeting the starting lineup. During the match, they were too busy tweeting out highlight packages for the U23 game to keep up with the action. Two teams, one club indeed.
With no coverage available, the best we can do his hope to piece together what happened. The scant game recap on the official site gives us the basics. Rachel Furness continues her tear of goal scoring form from midfield. She opened the scoring with a back post header off of a Jade Bailey corner, and scored the third with a low pile driver from outside the box. Sandwiched in between was Jade Bailey scoring her first goal for the club. Kirsty Linnett rounded things out with a goal in extra time.
So, that’s the recap that we have. Thus far, there are no highlights up on the FA Player or from the LFC site. The Anfield Wrap was able to get media passes to attend, and did a great job filling on the blanks with a match recap podcast. Outside of the players on the score sheet, Rinsola Babajide and Jess Clarke impressed in the attack yet again, while Taylor Hinds was stellar in the back line. The only negative was Rhiannon “Razza” Roberts being forced off with an ankle injury.
It sounds like the squad is hitting their stride, with two dominating performances in a row after a stumble in the first match. In truth, Liverpool SHOULD be dominating most of these teams. They are currently tied at the top of the table, only behind Sheffield United on Goals For (the teams are tied on goal difference). Liverpool will look to build on their form as they travel to Coventry next Sunday.
