Liverpool Reportedly Agree £10M Ki-Jana Hoever Sale

Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be signing the Reds defender with a fee and personal terms agreed.

There have been plenty of Liverpool fringe players linked with departures. Until today, Ki-Jana Hoever had not been one of them. Now, it appears the 18-year-old is certain to leave the club and join Wolves in a permanent deal.

According to Craig Hope of The Mail and since confirmed by James Pearce of The Athletic, a £10M fee has been agreed between clubs and personal terms agreed with the player, with Wolves impressed by his versatility as a right back and central defender as they look to replace the departed Matt Doherty.

To call this news a surprise would be an understatement, as there had been little talk of a potential departure for Hoever—even on loan, never mind permanently. However, the Dutch youth international has always seemed something of an awkward fit for the Reds.

Undersized by centre half standards and with the club clearly preferring tall men in the middle but lacking the kind of pace a wingback would ideally have for Jürgen Klopp’s system, he felt a little between positions.

At Wolves, where Doherty generally played as a wingback, there may be similar questions about his fit, but it appears the West Midlands club see a clearer path to first team football for Hoever than existed at Anfield and so have moved quickly to sign him up.
